Deilam folk dwelled in mountainous regions named Deylamestan. And Gil folk dwelled in plains.

The term "Deyl" means within and inside, and the term "lam" means ungle and forest. So "Deilam" means inside forest. Dehkhoda encyclopedia knows this word as a combination of "Gil" and 'An". This area was the abode of "Gelay" folk which later charged to Gil". Then the suffix "An' was combined to it, and the word become Gilan(Guilan)". So Guilan is the combination of 'Gil' and "An" which neans Gil's abode.

3uilan was called *Darolmarz" (border) in the "Arabs' attack area because the Muslims" possession come to end at that area.
